ever gets to the point where he's really going to cut the big three. i do give the president a great deal of credit for fighting the republicans like this and standing up to them. they're a reckless party and they don't care if they have another financial meltdown in this country. this is one of the most un-american things i think i have ever seen play out by a political party. president obama is putting politics aside. it's time for the republicans to do the same. i mean, when the president says this may sink my presidency, he's willing to have that happen as long as it saves the country financially. for once, for sure, we can turn to washington and see that there is someone and it happens to be president obama who's willing to put country first at the stake of -- at the sake of possibly losing his base in a very important election cycle and it may, of course, jeopardize his re-election. he's got 77 people in the house who signed on a resolution saying no cuts to the big three and willing to go to war with them as well to save the economy. where are the republicans? for the latest o

's right. you know, the big point of contention yesterday was with house majority leader eric cantor pushing for this short-term deal or a series of short-term deals. the president, according to democratic sources familiar with the talks, made it clear that that is something he does not support and something he would veto. the president has, for the last few days, and certainly weeks as well, been pushing for the biggest deal possible where it it seemed to get some support. of late, it has not. the president believing if you start talking about the short-term deals, you run into the political season where you negotiate the things all over again. if you can't get this done now, how will you get this done in the thick of the political season? tense discussions yesterday. the president agitated and believing that republicans are using the debt talks to make political points. the president making the point, according to those inside the meeting, that this kind of atmosphere just confirms some of the worst fears that americans have about the way washington works. >> well, yeah. the way wa

, here's where things stand. there are three different big deals out there. number one is what the president and speaker boehner and eric cantor are negotiating, which is, yes, a big deal that is separate from anything the gang of six in the senate is working on. and then of course there's mcconnell-reid. one thing that's going on in the last 24 to 48 hours, is any deal that's mcconnell-reid that includes this idea of sort of the disapproval vote, giving the president more power to raise the debt ceiling, that thing has grown to the point of almost being toxic with some house republicans. in fact, they hate it so much, they may prefer to negotiate with the president directly. but for the white house, getting the 217 means making a deal acceptable to at least some of those houses with 87 new members. the man who's made himself their standard bearer, majority leader eric cantor put it this way. >> one-third of the republican conference and one-quarter of the entire house of representatives are freshmen, they're new. many of them have never served in public office before. >> yes,

of stuff coming up with all the excitement coming up and weather going on and now the weather maps. big story the last couple of days has been a nonstory, tropical storm don became nothing, unfortunately. folks in texas hopes to get a big storm out of this and get some rain at least. the storm slowed up and they did not get the rain. across the eastern part of the country, across coastal areas, there was some rain but not too far inland but they will take anything they can get the entire state of texas is dealing with the worst drought they have ever had and now the radar, the eastern part of the country will deal with storms. it is hot. humid. we will see more storms this afternoon. texas unfortunately is not beginning to get much rain. in the northern plains, big storms, and some this afternoon, and they will be severe, keep that in mind, and across the west, we will continue to deal with storms cross the four corners. and now, everyone is excited about the state fair for the food and this year, those are doughnuts and a burger. and bacon. how is that for breakfast? take a bite. >> ri
